At GeoZS, we are carefully monitoring and assessing the environmental impact of geothermal energy use and developing methodologies to more accurately predict their cumulative impact on the environment. We are working to expand the use of shallow GHP and higher temperature geothermal sources to replace the use of fossil fuels in heating and cooling as far as possible. We are working to integrate and transfer scientific knowledge into applied projects to test innovative solutions.
With our experience, credibility and knowledge, we are at the heart of the comprehensive assessment of the potential and optimal use of the geological energy potential in Slovenia. We are working towards making GeoZS an undisputed expert authority and a central expert and advisory service for key decision-makers and investors in the selection of geothermal energy sources. We are focused on developing a long-term national strategic vision for a green energy transition and the use of carbon-free resources.
Strategic objectives
1. Developing of new methods for geothermal measurements, potential assessment and evaluation of the impact of geothermal energy (GTE) use.
2. Co-creating the green energy transition and decarbonisation strategy based on geological energy potential and renewable energy sources.
3. Becoming a demonstration model for the implementation of environmentally and climate resilient measures.
Activities
To achieve our strategic objectives, we are implementing the following activities:
- We are developing methods to perform geothermal measurements to reduce uncertainties in the estimation of geothermal potential in a 4D environment.
- Strengthening research to identifying and reducing the environmental impact of geoenergy use and planning sustainable use.
- We are actively involved in the preparation of strategic documents on research into the potential and use of geoenergy for new uses or substitution from existing (fossil) energy sources.
- We advise municipalities and industry on planning the use of GTEs in energy infrastructure installations.
- We carry out research related to the siting, construction and operation of underground and above-ground energy facilities.
