Capitan MAURICE: Proven Solutions for a More Resilient Central Europe, September 29–30, 2026

A kick-off meeting for the project took place in Katowice, Poland, at the end of September Captain MAURICE, which is co-financed by the Interreg Central Europe program. The project aims to adapt, transfer, and further develop proven solutions in the fields of blue-green infrastructure, spatial planning, remote sensing, and early warning systems for extreme weather events to new environments, adapt them, and further develop them.

Partners from Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Germany—including GeoZS—presented past projects, existing solutions, and planned activities for transferring these solutions to new pilot sites. The discussion focused on identifying local and regional specificities that will require adapting existing methodologies to the conditions at each location.

Two solutions developed by GeoZS as part of a completed project will be implemented at the new pilot site MAURICE and the project KaraMON, which is still underway in the cross-border area of the Karavanke Geopark:

  • sinkability chart for the municipality of Koprivnica in Croatia,
  • Implementation and Upgrade of the Early Warning System for Extreme Rainfall Events in the Pécs area in Hungary.

The partners discussed opportunities for international cooperation, the development of a toolkit to facilitate knowledge transfer and cross-border cooperation, training on the use of innovative solutions, and communication activities to strengthen climate resilience.
