Danube GeoHeCo Project Closing Conference, May 20, 2026
The project's closing international conference was held in Novi Sad in May 2026 Danube GeoHeCo, which brought together European institutions, researchers, and experts in the field of geothermal energy. Participants discussed the project’s results and future opportunities for expanding the use of shallow geothermal energy for sustainable heating and cooling in Europe. Following opening remarks and technical presentations on technology, policy, and investments, we concluded the event with a panel discussion. The panel highlighted shallow geothermal energy as a mature solution for decarbonization, noting that its successful development requires stronger cross-sectoral cooperation and supportive legislative frameworks. As one of the keynote speakers, Dr. Mitja Janža represented the Slovenian scientific and professional communities and helped shape regional guidelines for the energy transition.
