In May, the All-Slovenian Energy Conference (VEK26) was held at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana. The event focused on the future of low-carbon energy supply in Slovenia through the use of hydroelectric power plants, solar and geothermal energy, hydrogen technologies, and small modular reactors. Our experts highlighted opportunities for the wider use of geothermal energy. Assoc. Prof. Nina Rman, Ph.D., presented available data to assess the geothermal potential in Slovenia and, using the example of Murska Sobota, demonstrated the preparation of a feasibility study for a district heating system. Dr. Mitja Janža presented the results of the Danube projects GeoHeCo subsurface InnoGeoPot. The online information tool for planning geothermal systems and the Transnational Action Plan for Promoting the Use of Geothermal Energy in the Danube Region provide a tool and guidelines for the effective planning, construction, and operation of shallow geothermal systems.
