Earth Day expert consultation

On the occasion of this year's Earth Day, 22 April 2025, which was held under the motto Our Power, Our Planet, we organised together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the University of Ljubljana (NTF) an expert consultation on Geosphere. The geosphere is the foundation for the digital and green transition - but only if we manage our natural resources responsibly and thoughtfully.

"We are witnessing increasing pressure from various interests on the Earth's subsurface, from infrastructure and energy projects to the potential for subsurface storage and other land-use interventions. Access to geospatial data is particularly important in areas such as sustainable mineral management, 3D spatial planning, seismic safety assessments, geothermal energy potential assessments and groundwater management," said Dr Miloš Bavec, Director of GeoZS, at the start of the Earth Day event yesterday, adding that "Slovenia, unfortunately, compared to other EU countries, does not have a systematic collection of geological data that should be public and accessible."

For years, GeoZS has been systematically building a database of geological data, interpreting it and making it available to the public through various applications:
