Dr. Snježana Miletić received her PhD on Characterisation and determination of the origin of the rocks used in the built structures of the municipium Claudium Celeia under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mirijam Vrabec, Department of Geology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, UL, and co-mentorship of Prof. Dr. Bojan Djurić, Faculty of Arts, UL.

In the framework of the PhD thesis, we investigated the built structures made of stone materials from three archaeological sites in the area of Roman Celeia using different geological methods. In response to the complex problem of the separation of Eastern Alpine marbles, which has been dealt with by many researchers for decades, we wanted to find and test a reliable method that would provide clear answers about the origin of marbles in archaeological sites in the Eastern Alpine area and beyond. The new findings allow archaeologists to identify the conditions and rules of supply of stone to ancient centres for different purposes, and to understand functionally defined levels of supply and its integration into local, regional and trans-regional networks.
