IZ GLOBIN Information and Interpretation Center, May 14, 2026

At Negova Castle in the Slovenske Gorice region, we participated in the opening of the cross-border “IZ GLOBIN” Information and Interpretation Center, which takes visitors on a journey into the mysterious world of the peat bogs and mofettes of the Ščavniška Valley. Over the past two years, GeoZS has, as part of the project DeProfundis provided expert support to the Nature Conservation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and, in collaboration with Radenska and the Faculty of Biotechnology at the University of Ljubljana, researched and conducted field surveys of numerous salt springs and mofettes. We participated in the reactivation of the Stavešinski Spring and the Očeslavska Salt Spring, studying the consistency of the outflow as well as the chemical and isotopic composition of selected salt springs. We expanded our understanding of mofettes, recognizing that they are not merely point sources of CO₂ but rather extensive areas of elevated emissions of this gas from the Earth’s mantle. On this occasion, we upgraded the existing trilingual permanent exhibition *The Earth’s Breath—Mofettes in the Slovenske Gorice*. With new interactive and educational content, we’ve made the exhibition even more accessible to families and schoolchildren, which is why it has also been renamed “On the Trail of Bubbles.”.
