Library

The Library of the Geological Survey of Slovenia is a specialised library in the field of geology. It is intended for GeoZS employees and external visitors.

The library has more than 17,000 books of national and international literature in all areas of geology and geological research support. We regularly receive around 150 titles of national and international journals, mostly in the field of geology and related sciences. These are obtained from related institutions around the world through international exchange of publications. Selected journals are freely available to visitors or are stored in the repository. The library also holds a number of thematic geological maps at different scales.

Since 1993, we have been actively participating in the COBISS cataloguing system, where we also maintain bibliographies of our researchers. COBISS+ provides access to information on newer books, while older books are held in the Library's alphabetical catalogue.

Through membership of consortia ScienceDirect and SpringerLink coordinated by the Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana (CTK), we provide our users with access to the full text of articles published by Elsevier and Springer Nature.

Participating in a project SPOZNAJ aims to introduce open science principles into scientific research and to align the activities of 20 public research organisations and the CSTs with open science principles.

The library also offers access to the professional archives. Our archive comprises more than 40,000 expert reports, research papers and other documentation on geological surveys in Slovenia.
