The first and only modern geological guide to Slovenia was published as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the GeoZS, which is a fundamental work in the field of Slovenian popular geology. With descriptions of 70 excursion points and 6 outstanding specimens in museum collections, it explains in a human touch why Slovenian residents and visitors have the opportunity to visit the Alps, the Pannonian Plain and the Mediterranean in a few hours, while proudly strolling through an extraordinary geological history.

In it, 25 authors from three leading Slovenian research institutes in the field of geology, under the editorship of Dr N. Rman and Dr M. Novak from GeoZS, present selected Slovenian geological sites in an interesting way, in the form of descriptions with excellent pictorial appendices.

Many of the points described are located along roads, hiking, educational and tourist trails, and are equipped with information boards and other educational material. To make it easier and quicker to identify the geological phenomena described, symbols explaining the significance and usefulness of each point are shown alongside photographs of each point.

For more sophisticated readers, a selection of popular and specialist literature is provided at each point, but even more important is the first illustrative overview of public and registered private geological collections in Slovenia.

The guide is aimed at a wide range of nature lovers, from school-age youngsters to those in their third decade of life, mountaineers and tourists. Readers will be able to draw useful information from it or use it as an informative tourist guide for so-called geotourism.
