As an associate partner in the TRANSGEO project, GeoZS participated in the final conference and field visits focusing on the development of deep geothermal energy use in Vienna. Based on the data provided on more than 250 deep wells in Slovenia—most of which were drilled for hydrocarbon exploration—we were able to use the new tools assessed their potential for new technologies, such as underground energy storage and electricity generation in closed systems. We also contributed to Transnational Strategies for the reuse of abandoned wells to generate geothermal energy. We are successfully incorporating this strategy into the content we are developing for the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. In the field, we inspected the new »GeoTief Wien« geothermal wells for Wien Energie GmbH and the Green Prater residential heating system, which uses shallow geothermal energy.
