Research visit by Dr. Janja Svetina to the Polytechnic University of Turin, May–June 2026

Dr. Janja Svetina completed a one-month research visit at the prestigious Polytechnic University of Turin in Italy, where she was a guest researcher with the groundwater engineering research group.

During her visit, she conducted research on the adsorption of PFAS compounds onto activated carbon and explored the potential use of organic dyes as indirect indicators in this type of research. PFAS—compounds also known as »forever chemicals« due to their exceptional persistence in the environment —are one of the greatest challenges today in the fields of environmental protection and water treatment, as some of these compounds are also associated with serious risks to human health.

The main objective of the visit was to gain new knowledge in the field of groundwater remediation and to strengthen international cooperation, which will enable the transfer of advanced research approaches to the Slovenian research community. The visit is taking place as part of the GeoZS A-GRem development project.
