Geological map of Slovenia 1 : 1.000.000

The 1 : 1 million scale geological map of Slovenia is printed in A4 format and is based on the 1 : 1 million scale interactive online map produced by the international project OneGeology Europe and available on the geoportal http://onegeology-europe.brgm.fr/geoportal.

It is based on Geological map of Slovenia 1 : 250.000 (Buser, 2009), supplemented with data from the GeoZS archive and new field data by the authors. The rocks of Slovenia are classified into 26 units according to a slightly different concept than the standard one. Each unit includes rocks formed during a specific geotectonic period and its associated sedimentary area. The rocks are not listed by name, but this concept makes it easier to understand the geological evolution of the Slovenian territory from the map. The tectonics is illustrated by major faults and major narives.

Digital graphics give the map multiple uses. The convenient standard format makes the map useful for inclusion in various atlases, publications and presentations. The text is bilingual, making it suitable for presentation to foreign geological experts. The map was made possible by the ARRS under the Regional Geology Research Programme.

A free printed copy can be checked out from the GeoZS library.
