The development of an integrated approach for the three-dimensional interpretation of geological mapping data and the creation of the foundations for a unified geodatabase are crucial for the implementation of the next generation of regional geological and hydrogeological research methods. These will contribute to a better understanding of Slovenia’s geological structure, effective management of geohazards and the protection and sustainable use of natural resources.
The main pilot area of the project is the hinterland of Koroška Bela, with the challenge of slope mass movements. This geologically, hydrogeologically and engineering geologically well-studied area represents an invaluable natural laboratory. The range of past, current and planned project tasks in the fields of basic geological sciences, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence paves the way for effective cross-project synergies.
In addition, the KB3D project serves as a basis for strengthening the work of the geological modelling group at GeoZS with the aim of continuously supporting existing geological models and promoting further scientific development in this area.
