Findability of geothermal energy websites in seven European countries and Iceland

In a scientific paper entitled "Findability of geothermal energy websites in seven EU countries and Iceland", the researchers investigated how easy - or not - it is to use keywords to find national websites with relevant information on the potential or development of geothermal projects. They were able to inventory and rank 90 websites providing information in Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia and Austria. The main findings can be summarised in three points, namely that most of these websites are difficult to find without the help of artificial intelligence or experts, that a higher installed capacity of geothermal energy use does not necessarily mean better accessibility to information (at least not with the search method tested), and that the findability, content provided, multilingualism, graphical displays, data sources and types of information listed on these websites are highly dependent on national legislation on the handling of exploration and geological data.
