Optical scanning instrument TCS

Description of equipment

Technical data:

  • Manufacturer Lippman & Rauen GbR
  • measuring range: λ= 0.2 - 25 W/(m∙K), α= 0.6 - 3.0 mm2/s (TCS - Manual, 31.1.2017)
  • precision and accuracy of results: for λ= 3 % (for a confidence level of 0,95), for α= 5 %
  • measurement speed and duration: up to 60 samples/hour (depending on sample length), if the samples to be measured have been prepared beforehand
  • specimen size: 40 to 504 mm, of any given shape, where the surface to be measured shall not have a roughness of more than ± 0,5 mm
  • Maximum scan length: 620 mm
  • Sample preparation: sawing and polishing of samples is not necessary if the measured area satisfies the above criterion. It is necessary to pre-paint the sample along the scan line on a flat surface or on a cylindrical surface (with black acrylic paint, 25-40 μm thick and with a line width of at least 20 mm).
  • TCS software: control software with intuitive user interface
  • Scan speed: 5 mm/s
  • dimensions: length = 116 cm, height = 24 cm, width = 29 cm
  • temperature range of use: room temperature

Access to equipment of equipment

The meter is suitable for solid rocks, conditionally also for hardened soils and other solids where the thermal conductivity is expected to be within the measuring range. Measurements of different rock samples for the purpose of updating the Geothermal Database.

Equipment rental

We also perform measurements for external customers on samples in the GeoZS laboratory.
