In February, we organised geology workshops for pupils from 5th to 9th grade at Tržič Primary School and Križe Primary School at GeoZS, where we presented the work of geologists and tested them in various practical tasks. In the first part, the pupils explored groundwater as a source of drinking and thermal water, the main sources of pollution and ways to protect water resources. In the laboratory, they learned about methods for measuring water turbidity and a system for determining the number of bacteria in a sample. They tested the Picarro laser isotope analyser and took a groundwater sample from a borehole. They used GPR to learn how to detect possible buried ecological burdens that threaten groundwater. In the second part, the pupils delved into the world of minerals and rocks and learned about the raw materials used to extract natural pigments in the past and the whole process of their production.
