To mark its 80th anniversary, GeoZS set up an outdoor exhibition titled “Beneath the Surface—Geosciences for the Cities of the Future” on Gallus Embankment in Ljubljana. The exhibition was on display on Gallus Embankment from August 28 to September 27, 2026, and is now available for viewing in virtual form. here.

The exhibition introduces visitors to modern methods and equipment for exploring the Earth’s surface and subsurface—from advanced geophysical measurements and remote sensing to 3D modeling and geological mapping. Discover how geoscientists contribute to the safe and sustainable development of cities, the efficient management of natural resources, the identification of modern, invisible pollutants, adaptation to climate change, and coexistence with geologically induced hazards. The exhibition showcases our research activities throughout Slovenia, with a special focus on the challenges, characteristics, and solutions related to urban development.

The exhibition is part of the Science Month 2026 program and this year’s European Researchers’ Night.
