iNNO SED is a Horizon Europe project with partners from the entire Danube region. We are researching innovative, sustainable and scientifically sound solutions for sediment management in the Danube River Basin. Sediments are an often overlooked component of river systems, but they influence habitats and serve as socio-economic, environmental and geomorphological resources. Sediments act as sources and sinks for contaminants and fertile soils, while material from flash floods can destroy the affected areas. The iNNO SED concept is based on three fundamental pillars: Scientific Pillar 1 – Innovative Sediment Quantity and Quality monitoring and modelling, Scientific Pillar 2 – Sediment management measures and decision support system, and Socio -economy and environment Pillar. Above these three pillars are the iNNO SED Demonstration Actions, and the Knowledge Centre.
The iNNO SED project brings together an international consortium of 46 partners and associated partners, including core partners of the DanubeSediment and SIMONA projects, scientists, water managers, innovators and stakeholders from 15 European countries, representing ~95% of the Danube River Basin, to ensure a transnational, cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary approach.
