The themes were announced on 24 March international geoproesthetics day (After a global online competition where individuals from all over the world submitted their ideas, an expert panel decided to select the themes for the next three years - 2026, 2027 and 2028 - due to the outstanding quality of the proposals.

The theme of the International Geopesture Day 2026, on Tuesday 6 October, will be Geodiversity on our Doorstep. The theme encourages people to explore and identify the geological diversity in the immediate surroundings where we live, work and spend our daily lives. In doing so, the global initiative aims to connect with the local environment and highlight that geodiversity is everywhere around us. The theme for 2026 brings together two original ideas contributed by Martina Stupar from the Slovenian Nature Conservation Institute and Naomi Irapta from the Philippines, PhD student at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest.
