The 1:250,000 scale geological map of Slovenia is based on the 1:100,000 scale of the Geological Base Map. It took more than 20 years to produce. Due to inconsistencies between the individual sheets, it was necessary to carry out a thorough field reambulation. The field work was accompanied by numerous analyses (conodonts, nannoplankton, radiolarians and microfauna and microflora). 114 lithostratigraphic units have been mapped. Important geological structures and regional faults are also shown. All data are captured in a GIS environment, which allows easy further use. The reambulation work has generated a number of new data which are shown for the first time on a geological map.
