When conducting basic and applied research in the field of geosciences, rock and soil samples are collected to provide physical evidence for geological studies. These samples enable the verification of results and further studies, which is why their proper storage is crucial. Currently, the samples at GeoZS are stored in a disorganised warehouse, which makes their identification and use difficult. In addition, other key components of the system are missing, such as proper organisation, storage protocols and a digital infrastructure for data input, managing and retrieval of samples.

As part of the project, we will establish a working group that will develop a conceptual model for the comprehensive management of samples at GeoZS based on best practises. We will prepare a collection management plan that includes all the necessary steps for the effective organisation and storage of samples. We will also set up an information system to record sample storage, allowing easy data entry, management and retrieval. These measures will lay the foundation for an advanced geological repository that will enable efficient and long-term storage and use of samples for future research.
