Field trip
Optional field trip to the mining town of Idrija
We invite you to visit Idrija, the oldest mining town in Slovenia — a charming place located about 50 km west of Ljubljana. It is a home to the world’s second-largest mercury mine, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Sitefor its exceptional mercury mining heritage. During the visit, we will explore 500 years of mining and ore-roasting history as we tour the mine museum and other notable attractions in Idrija.
This is a one-day trip, departing from Ljubljana on Friday, 17 July 2026, at 9.00 AM, and returning to Ljubljana at around 5:00 PM.

You can also get an Urban Card. The easiest way to get an Urban Card is to find an Urbanomat - a machine where you can buy and top up your card. You can also obtain an Urbana card. The easiest way to get an Urbana card is to find an Urbanomat – a machine where you can buy and fill your card. You can also buy it at tourist information centres, most city street kiosks and post offices. The price for the card is 2 €. Use of Urbanomat is easy, it has a touch screen where you will have to press “English language” and then choose to buy or to fill your card. There are three payment options: cash, credit card and with mobile phone (but paying with mobile is available only for users from Slovenia). So, first time users need to buy a card and then fill it from 1 € to 50 €. Another option is to download the Urbana app (https://www.lpp.si/en/informations-passensgers/urbana-mobile-app) and fill it from 1 to 50€ and then click ‘’USE URBANA’ ’while entering the bus and choosing how many tickets do you want to purchase. One bus ride costs 1.50 €; keep in mind that one ticket allows you to change as many busses as you need in a period of 90 minutes. Urbana City Card can also be used for payment at parking areas, some parking garages or for the funicular to Ljubljana Castle. More information about Ljubljana public transport and Urbana can be found on https://www.jhl.si/en/single-city-card-urbana.
