Description of equipment

The Dräger X-am® 8000 simultaneously measures four different free gases in the air—CO—using diffusion and/or a pump2, O2, CH4, H2S. It is primarily intended for detecting hazards, such as explosive or toxic gases, but is also used in soil and atmospheric research.

Access to equipment of equipment

The free gas analyzer at GeoZS serves two main purposes. 

The first is the detection of hazards posed by the presence of explosive or toxic gases when working under special conditions; in boreholes and wells used to extract mineral water containing CO2, in wells containing thermal water with methane and in wells for hydrocarbons, as well as in the event of spills and the remediation of contaminants that may release these gases.

The primary research purpose of using a free gas analyzer is to conduct environmental measurements. We determine the types and concentrations of free gases in the soil that are released from groundwater or are present in the atmosphere. It is used in our research on mineral water springs containing free gases and natural CO2 – mofet, groundwater with the smell of rotten eggs – with H2S and thermomineral waters containing hydrocarbons—primarily CH4.

Equipment rental

We also conduct field measurements for external clients. Equipment can be rented following prior training on its use.
