GeoZS presents the INFO-GEOTHERMAL project at a round table, 27 August 2025

Associate Professor Dr Nina Rman participated in a panel discussion at the event "Cooperation that makes a difference - achievements of the Financial Mechanisms 2014-2021", organised by the National Focal Point for the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the EEA Financial Mechanism on 27 August 2025. The event was aimed at presenting successful projects and their contribution to sustainable development.

At the event, we presented the project Supporting efficient cascade use of geothermal energy by unlocking official and public information which was implemented together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning (MNVP), the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Spatial Planning (MOPE), the Community of Slovenian Municipalities (SOS) and the Icelandic School of Energy. The project aimed to raise the profile of geothermal energy in Slovenia and to develop proposals for legislative adjustments that would reduce geological risks in the construction of deep geothermal boreholes, improve project financing options and increase opportunities for cascading thermal water use - from heating buildings and greenhouses to electricity generation.

Key results of the project include increasing access to public informationrelevant for the development of geothermal projects. The project has produced digital database change 3D geothermal model of north-eastern Slovenia, which provides insights into geological structures and the potential for geothermal energy exploitation. The model is available at web link. We have also issued a new report to show the results more clearly. A booklet on the energy-efficient use and development of geothermal resources.

The INFO-GEOTHERMAL project represents an important step towards tThe European Geothermal Energy Network (EGEG) contributes to the sustainable development of geothermal energy in Slovenia by bringing together research institutions, decision-makers and local communities, and by raising awareness of the importance of efficient and responsible use of renewable energy sources.
