Ljubljana, Slovenia - Water Convention

Representatives of GeoZS attended the 10th Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes - Water Convention. Slovenia took over the three-year chairmanship of the Convention Bureau at the Ljubljana event. As many as 153 countries around the world share transboundary water resources, and the Convention currently has 55 States Parties. Access to water resources, warning of and dealing with the consequences of catastrophic events such as floods, droughts, pollution, including as a consequence of warfare, and the proper management of urban space increasingly underline the claim that WATER = PEACE.

GeoZS is actively exploring our only transboundary groundwater body, the Karavanke, where we are currently implementing two projects, WATERWISE (Interreg Alpine Space programme) and KaraMOON (Interreg Slovenia-Austria programme).
