Field research in Nepal

GoeZS Associate Dr Tea Kolar Jurkovšek participated in field research in Nepal's Mustang province in November. The research focused on the Himalayan Tetida area in the upper Kali Gandaki basin. The objective of the research was to carry out biostratigraphical, sedimentological and structural analyses, and in parallel, Triassic strata were sampled for conodont studies, which are being carried out as part of the Regional Geology research programme.

In collaboration with students and professors, Dr Kolar Jurkovšek also conducted a 10-day workshop at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu on conodonts, early vertebrates whose fossil teeth are key to determining the age of Palaeozoic and Triassic rocks. The focus was on the preparation of carbonate samples for conodont analyses, including acid preparation with acetic acid.
