Insights into underground thermal energy storage systems for Slovenia's energy transformation
The scientific paper "Insights into aquifer and borehole thermal energy storage systems for Slovenia's energy transition" presents underground thermal storage systems in aquifers and boreholes. These offer promising solutions for the green transition, as they allow the seasonal storage of renewable geothermal energy, which balances the mismatch between supply and demand. The paper highlights the importance of basic geological knowledge, laboratory and field research and performance monitoring to optimise the performance of these systems. The study highlights the need for Slovenia to use the experience of other European countries to overcome initial challenges, develop efficient methods to assess the potential of sites and integrate these systems into the existing energy infrastructure.
