The Geology of Karst monograph deals with the territory of the Karst, which occupies a special place among the world's karst regions, since the scientific term karst was coined from its name.

The book contains a wealth of images of bare rocks, quarries, rock specimens, fossils and some of the architectural features of the Karst. In addition to an updated geological map, it presents several thematic maps dealing with tectonics, mineral raw materials and the palaeogeographical conditions of the environment in which the rocks of the Karst were formed, etc.

The introductory chapters detail the history of geological exploration in the Karst, and then take the reader through the major biological and geological changes in Earth's history, from the great Permian-Triassic extinction to the resurgence of life at the beginning of the Middle Ages to the asteroid impact at the end of the Cretaceous, which steered the evolution of the living world towards the present. In parallel, the movement of the lithospheric plates up to the final break-up of the supercontinent Pangea into the individual continents and their trajectories towards the present-day Legends is explained.

Geology of the Karst is a fundamental scientific work of great utility and has been fully translated into English. The large format of the book, with 48 double-page plates presenting all the most important karst formations, will certainly be a welcome tool for specialists, young people at school and those who wish to learn about the geology of the Karst in an informative way. The book offers a starting point for rethinking the geological heritage of the Karst, its evaluation and protection.
