CONTENT:

In order to boost innovation and entrepreneurship in the mineral raw materials sector, to expand mineral resources (MR) supply for Europe and to increase investments in the mining and mineral industry, the knowledge of existent primary and secondary mineral raw materials (mining waste in particular) is of high importance. The preliminary condition in this process is sufficient networking of existing Mineral Support Services (MSS) and the transfer of their knowledge into broader European area (ESEE region), where more mineral resources could be expected. The new resources of mineral commodities would significantly contribute to meet the requirement and demand of EU industry and should increase the sustainability of European MR supply. On the one hand, the efficient MSS provides expert support to the authorities (on national, regional or local level) at the decision-making process, and on the other hand to facilitate industry to enter into new markets. In addition, one of the objectives of MSS activities is to reach a balance between ensuring sustainable mineral management in line with spatial planning and environmental protection.

The lead partner of this 3-year project is Geological Survey of Slovenia (GeoZS), along with project partners from DMT GmbH & Co. KG (Germany), Geological Institute of Romania (IGR), French Geological Survey (BRGM), Geological Survey of the Republic of Macedonia (GZRM), Bučim mine (Republic of Macedonia) and Slovenian surface Mining Association (DTV PO).
