Content<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The project focussed on defining measures that would effectively ensure a suitable habitat for the survival and reproduction of the white and black subspecies of the Proteus (<\/span>Proteus anguinus anguinus<\/span><\/i> or <\/span>Proteus anguinus Anguillid<\/span><\/i>) in the hinterland of two karst springs in Bela Krajina, Jel\u0161evni\u0161\u010dica and Otovski breg. In order to define scientifically justified, relevant and targeted measures, it was essential to assess the extent and sources of groundwater pollution, with a focus on nitrate levels.
