Content<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n GeoZS joined the three-year MAURICE project \"Management of urban water resources in Central Europe facing climate change\" in April 2024. This is an Interreg Central Europe project that presents new solutions for water management in cities in the context of adaptation and resilience to climate change. Eleven project partners will look for solutions for the management, planning, construction and maintenance for scenarios of water scarcity, extreme weather events, decreasing groundwater levels and similar phenomena that threaten cities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The project is led by G\u0142\u00f3wny Instytut G\u00f3rnictwa with partners from the cities of Jaworzno, Stuttgart, Novy Bydzov, Vara\u017edin, Liberec Technical University, Politecnico di Milano, Consorzio di Bonifica Est Ticino Villoresi, GeoZS, Ljubljana Waterworks and Sewerage company, and Geotechnical Faculty at the University of Zagreb.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The Slovenian partners are leading a work package dealing with groundwater quality in the light of climate change and the measures that need to be taken to ensure that quality does not deteriorate and improvements can be pursued in line with all water policy objectives. The City of Stuttgart project partner is in charge of introducing solutions to the problems of geotechnical or other consequences of changes in groundwater levels, changes in the carrying capacity of the soil and the prevention of damage to buildings. The project partner from Milan is leading the development of tools for the rehabilitation of old water management systems (e.g. canal systems), how they can be used for retention, storage or recharge to withstand extreme droughts.
