The experts examine the geochemical properties of sediments and suspended particles in the transboundary Mura River basin. Based on samples collected at 66 locations along the main channel and tributaries, the authors studied the spatial distribution of elements and determined the geochemical background of the watershed. The results show that the geochemical composition of the sediments is primarily determined by the natural geological characteristics of the area, although the effects of human activities\u2014particularly mining, industry, and urbanization\u2014are also evident at individual locations. Special attention was paid to rare earth elements, whose distribution can aid in identifying the origin of sediments and anthropogenic impacts.
