From June 8 to 11, 2026, the Telus Conference Center in Calgary hosted the World Geothermal Congress, one of the most important global events in the field of geothermal energy. The congress was attended by approximately 1,800 experts from around the world, with as many as 88 countries already actively utilizing geothermal energy in various ways today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GeoZS was represented at the congress by Du\u0161an Rajver, M.A., and young researcher Karlo Borko, who contributed several technical papers and actively showcased Slovenian achievements in this field. In the \u201cCountry Updates \u2013 Part 4\u201d session, Du\u0161an Rajver gave a presentation titled Country Updates \u2013 Slovenia<\/em> (Rajver, Rman, Lapanje et al.), in which he presented the latest developments and the current state of geothermal activity in Slovenia. In addition, he also participated in the poster session with a presentation Is Reinjection into Sandy Aquifers the Only Sustainable Solution? The Case of the Pannonian Basin<\/em> (Rman, Lapanje, Rajver, Adrinek, Ger\u010dar, Jan\u017ea), which addresses issues related to the sustainable management of geothermal resources in the Pannonian Basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Karlo Borko presented his research in the poster session Field-to-Laboratory Assessment of Subsurface Thermal Conductivity: A Geothermal Case Study in Slovenia<\/em>, which focuses on a comparative analysis of the thermal conductivity of the subsurface based on field and laboratory measurements. Our experts were co-authors of another poster presentation, which was presented by Fiona Chapman First Field Experiments Using Fiber Optics to Assess Geothermal Potential in Slovenia<\/em> (Rman, Borko, Chapman, Raymond, Vidmar, Hoyer), which presents the first field experiments using optical fibers to assess geothermal potential in Slovenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Participation in the conference was an important opportunity to exchange knowledge, network with leading experts, and strengthen international cooperation in the field of geothermal energy.
