As part of the TopDISPERZ and INRIGeoTeam projects, Dr Simona Adrinek was a month-long guest of the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. She was mentored by Dr Alexandros Daniilidis, whose research focuses mainly on energy and economic analysis of geothermal systems and quantification of uncertainties in direct use geothermal systems through numerical modelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the visit was to deepen knowledge in the field of modelling reinjection (water return to the aquifer) in the application of geothermal systems in sedimentary basins. Correct modelling and prediction of geological heterogeneity, and hence in particular porosity, is essential for effective reinjection and correct modelling of the thermal diffusion of perched water. In collaboration with PhD student Yuan Chen and Professor Dr Guillaume Rongier, Simona has developed a code for the Moravske Toplice study area that allows the production of multiple realisations of geological facies. The results will form part of a scientific paper on thermal water reinjection, which we plan to produce by the end of 2025. Simona also had the opportunity to see the geothermal doublet that will heat and cool the Delft campus in the coming years.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
