Interested in geology and want to build a career in research?
GeoZS is offering postgraduate training opportunities for three young researchers on the following research topics: landslide dynamics, modelling of hydrogeological and geothermal processes, and the impact of extreme weather events on geochemical processes in urban environments.

PUBLIC CALL FOR TENDERS FOR APPLICANTS (M/F) FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS IN 2025
We are looking for a postgraduate training opportunity for a young researcher (m/f) in geology with a selected mentor.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS
To be considered as a Young Researcher, you must:
- Completion of a second-level programme of studies or a level of education which corresponds to that obtained on a second-level programme of studies or an equivalent level of education obtained at a university abroad. Applicants who will not have completed a second-level programme of study at the time of applying for the call for applications must have completed their studies by 15 September of the current year at the latest.
- It is less than four years since I completed my previous studies.
Young researcher candidates who are enrolled in an additional year of a third-level study programme at the time of signing the contract, or who have already benefited from this status, candidates who have already been funded under the Young Researcher Programme and candidates who have already completed their PhD are not eligible to apply.
THE CRITERIA FOR ASSESSING CANDIDATES:
- the average mark in all examinations and tutorials (excluding the diploma) in the first- and second-level study programme; at least 80 % of all examinations and tutorials must be passed;
- enrolment in a third-level study programme
- the prizes or awards you have received;
- published articles;
- taking part in research work
- experience of study or research outside the country of the home organisation where he/she carried out his/her studies;
- evaluation of the interview.
The evaluation of the criteria is determined by the GeoZS research organisation.
If the young researcher candidate is enrolled in the second or third year of a third-level study programme at the time of the conclusion of the contract, the average grade in all examinations and tutorials of the first-level study programme and the second-level study programme is irrelevant.
THE CALL FOR TENDER MUST INCLUDE:
- application form (GeoZS MR 2025) - fully completed and signed, and separate annexes
- evidence of formal qualifications if the applicant has already completed his/her studies (photocopy of the diploma of the second cycle programme)
- Proof of the average grade of the second cycle programme (i.e. a supplement to the diploma or an officially certified list of all examinations and exercises passed, showing the average grade), at least 80% of examinations and exercises must have been passed
- a written declaration (GeoZS MR 2025 - Declaration 2) that the candidate will have completed his/her Bachelor's or Master's degree at Level II by 15 September 2025 inclusive, and will have delivered a certificate of completion of the degree or Master's degree defence by the same date (if the candidate has not yet completed his/her studies)
- a written declaration by the candidate on the protection of personal data (GeoZS MR 2025 - Declaration 3)
- a written declaration from the applicant that he/she has not yet been funded in the Young Investigator Programme (GeoZS MR 2025 - Declaration 1)
- proof of awards and prizes received
- proof of published scientific articles with an attached COBISS extract
- Evidence of any previous research collaboration - this should be accompanied by as detailed a description as possible of any previous collaboration, including any references
- CV
- motivation letter in Slovenian and English
THE TIME THE EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP WAS ESTABLISHED:
The Geological Survey of Slovenia will conclude a fixed-term employment contract with the selected candidate for a maximum of 4 years for the duration of the training. The employment relationship or the period of funding of the training will be shortened by one year if the young researcher is enrolled in the second year of a third-level study programme at the time of signing the contract and by two years if he/she is enrolled in the third year of a third-level study programme.

The deadline for submitting complete applications to the call for proposals is 15.4.2025.
